The structure subsystem is responsible for the design of the mechanical system of the satellite. It provides a precise platform and alignment for mounting the components of the satellite. Although different satellites have different components depending on their payloads, they share a common type of structure. The structure provides thermal control, shielding as well as serving as a substrate for the printed board circuit.
The structure sustains the loads during environmental testing, ground handling, launch into low orbit, perigee and apogee fringes and the deployment of antennas and solar arrays.
Kalam, nano satellite, uses a diamond face-sheet honey comb panel. It is filled with cells of batteries and the solar panels are mounted on it too. The honey comb panel serves multiple purposes and has great thermal conductivity.
