KALAM Nano-satellite is an initiative by National Institute of Technology, Rourkela to involve and enlighten students about making of a satellite and about the Indian space program. It is the first ever project of its kind undertaken by the premier institute of India. The satellite is named after the missile man of India Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.
The project was started in the year 2013, in collaboration with ISRO, with an enthusiastic team of several students and professors. The project aims to make NIT Rourkela a premier leader in the space programs front of the country. Kalam would be a Nano-satellite occupying a volume of less than 2000 cubic centimeters and a weight of less than 10 kilograms. The satellite would observe the chotanagpur plateau and accomplishes its task in less than 3 years.
